About PRESEC:
PRESEC) is a prestigious all-male academic institution founded in 1938. It was originally located at Odumase – Krobo in the Eastern Region of Ghana. It was started as a secondary school for boys by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. PRESEC has ties with its sister school, Aburi Girls’ Senior High School.
The school’s crest has a shield with the Presbyterian Symbol (the St Andrew Cross-Scottish flag with the Swiss Flag embedded and a burning torch in the middle) with the motto of the school, “In Lumine Tuo Videbimus Lumen” (meaning “In Thy Light We Shall See Light”), scrolled beneath.
The school was started in Odumase after a Ghanaian educationist with the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, E. A. W. Engmann lobbied for a boys’ school to be started by the church.[3] This finally came to fruition in 1938 with the first group of 16 boys and 4 teachers. Rev. Engmann was the first headmaster. The Odumase campus initially housed German missionaries, then a primary school and then a Government Survey School before becoming the Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School. One of the proud traditions of the school is the ɔdadeɛ (baobab tree) located on the campus. An alumnus of the school is referred to as Ɔdadeɛ. The baobab tree is a Ghanaian symbol of knowledge, resourcefulness and strength. New students were traditionally initiated at the feet of this tree clad in bedsheets and powdered faces. PRESEC quickly gained a high reputation for the quality of its students both academically and in sports. PRESEC was located here till 1968 when it was moved to its new permanent location at Legon, Mile 9.
In September 1968, the new campus at Legon just north east of the University of Ghana campus at ‘Mile 9, received its first set of students. At the new campus it continued as a boys’ boarding secondary school until the mid 1970s when the sixth form was upgraded to the National Science College. Female students were admitted into the sixth form in small numbers to begin with from September 1975. They continued to be part of the student body till June 1996 when the last batch left.

PresecDiningHall
The Legon campus started with four student boarding houses. Three were named after notable Presbyterians. These are Kwansa House, Clerk House and Engmann House The fourth was named Akro House after the people of Krobo at Odumase. The next two houses to be built were Riis House and Labone House. With the completion of the National Science College buildings, more houses were added such Ako Adjei House and Owusu-Parry House (Named after the First Senior Prefect).Another house, yet to be named admitted it’s first residents in September 2010.Currently a new house is being built which is the tenth house in the School

About OWASS:
The school is named after the famous Asante King Opoku Ware I. OWASS students are called Akatakyie, meaning conquering warriors. Opoku Ware school is the first of the two all-boys Senior High schools in the Ashante Region.
Opoku Ware School was the first Catholic boys School in the Asante Kingdom. Although it is the Second all boys school in the region.Until its establishment, youth from the Ashanti Kingdom and the Northern part of Ghana who wanted Catholic education had to travel south across the Pra River to attend secondary schools.
This meant that members of the Catholic Church who wished to have their children educated in accordance with Catholic traditions had to send them to St. Augustine’s College or Holy Child College, both in Cape Coast.
The original plan to establish a secondary school in the Kingdom at the initiation of the King, called for one school jointly with the Catholic Church, Methodist and Presbyterian Churches. The Catholic Church opted out of it and asked the King’s blessing for the establishment of a separate school for the Catholics.
At a meeting held on 31 January 1951, a decision was taken to build a Roman Catholic Mission secondary school. The government was to provide all the funds for the building of the school. The school was meant for 360 students with a possible expansion to the Sixth Form. It was to be developed according to a ten-year development plan, and the final cost was estimated at £250,000. An expatriate construction firm, Fry, Drew and Company, was awarded the contract to build classrooms, dormitories, laboratories, and administration block and staff bungalows.
Opening
OWASS opened its doors on 28 February 1952 to 60 young boys to the school, originally called Yaa Asantewaa College. Two weeks after the school opened, the name was changed to Opoku Ware School following consultations with and instructions from the Manhyia Palace. This was to honour one of the most illustrious Asante Kings, who in May 1744 approached the Roman Catholic Mission at the Elmina Castle to educate Asante youth.
Katakyie Opoku Ware I, ruled Asanteman between 1720 and 1750. A past student of the school is known as Katakyie (conquering hero) the title by which Nana Opoku Ware I was known, principally for the expansionist drive of Asanteman’s frontiers, and for which he became famously known.
The late Rev. Fr. P. R. Burgess, An Oxford University graduate, was the first headmaster of the school. He was the son of an Irish draper and a former major in the British Army. He was a Polyglot and spoke Italian and French fluently. He also spoke Aramaic. The boys spent their first night at St. Paul’s house, the only dormitory in what was a desolate clearing. Two small rooms next to that house served as their dining hall, their assembly hall and their classroom.
Expansion
By 1955, the school had five dormitories (St Paul, St Matthew, St Mark, St Luke and St John), ten classrooms, three science laboratories, an administration block, dining hall, kitchen, library, and 17 staff bungalows. There were 450 students attending the school.
A Sixth Form was established in 1958, to provide courses in both the arts and sciences. A Cadet Corps was formed in 1960.
Presently, the boys are housed in nine houses. There are over 74 classrooms, six science laboratories, two libraries, a science resource center, computer centre, language laboratory, and French and German languages teaching centres.
There are 36 staff bungalows, a block of eight flats and quarters for junior administrative staff, cooks, and pantry boys. There is also a staff canteen, a chapel, a dining hall, and a sick bay.

About WEYGEYHEY:
Mission & Vision
We strive to achieve this vision by help of the Lord Jesus Christ on whom the school is built whilst pursuing the following:
1. Creating a propitious environment for the spiritual and moral development of each Girl.
2. Putting in place a frame work in which each girl can develop to the full, talents with which she may be endowed, while respecting those of others.
3. Providing what it takes to attain the highest academic standard.
4. Developing in each girl the capacity for quick, reasoned responses to challenges.
5. Developing in the individual an awareness of her responsibilities to the community and the broader society to which she belongs.
Vision
To produce God-fearing, well-balanced and self-confident individuals who are capable of taking the challenges of a fast-changing world in their stride whilst making the most of every opportunity for self-development and service to mankind.
The school was founded by the wife of the 2nd Methodist Missionary to the Gold Coast, Mrs. Harriet Wrigley in 1836 with 25 girls. Her aim was to give the girls basic training in housekeeping and catechism. Subjects taught included writing, reading, sewing and religious education. Classes were held at the Manse, in the Standfast Hall near the Victoria Part in Cape Coast.
However, five months after arrival, Mrs. Wrigley died. It was not until 1836 that an efficient school head in the person of Mrs. Elizabeth Waldron took over the running of the school. She administered the school for 43 good years and laid a solid foundation for what was to become the Wesleyan Girls’ School and Training home. Values such as fortitude, integrity and truthfulness soon became the hallmarks of the products of the school. Their high academic ability encouraged the Methodist church to agree to the provision of higher education for girls. Consequently, in 1884, Rev. W. M. Cannell who was then the Headmaster of Mfantsipim School started the Secondary section with 20 girls.

The two levels; primary and secondary continued by fits and starts and were sometimes closed down due to acute shortage of funding. It even suffered a temporary loss of identity when it had to team up with Mfantsipim as a co-educational secondary school under a new name, The Collegiate School.

By 1900, the school was on its own again with Mrs. H. J. Ellis as the Headmistress. The school in the early 20th Century was dominated by the able leadership and constructive work of Sister Evelyn Bellamy, a deaconess who headed the school from 1914 to 1443. It was during her time, precisely on 8th June 1925 that Dr. Kwegyir Aggrey visited the school and penned these words in the log book of the school ‘to educate a boy is to educate an individual but to educate a girl is to educate a family’.

In 1951, the Secondary School section was separated definitely from the primary when Miss Olive Compton moved the Secondary division of the school to its present site at Kakumdo. The firm establishment of the high School is attributed to Miss Compton who conceptualised the school as H.M.S Excellence (A Ship) and had the school designed architecturally as such.

With time, the glamour of the high school eclipsed the primary section which has not regained its former glory till today.

Subsequent headmistress; Miss Clarice Garnett, the last of the missionaries saw to the establishment of the sixth form for science (the arts had already been established by Miss Compton). Miss Clarice Garnett handed over to the first African headmistress of the school, Mrs. Rosina Acheampong, who had to work hard to prove to the whole world that the black woman was also capable of running the school of excellence. Despite the challenges that the 1987 Education Reform posed with the resultant structural change that made the secondary course 3 years instead of the 7 years, Mrs. Rosina Acheampong was able to maintain discipline and such high academic standards that the school became the most desired by girls in the country. She was succeeded in 1997 by Mrs. Nancy Thompson another old girl of the school. She increased the intake from 800 to about 1200 and expanded the infrastructure whilst maintaining the high academic standards.

In 2003, she retired and Mrs. Betty Djokoto, another old girl of the 1975 year group, who had been Assistant Headmistress for 7 years in the school, became the Headmistress. During her time, admission to the school is through the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS). The implications of this new system of admissions for the school coupled with current low morale of teachers are challenges she must work hard to overcome if standards are to be maintained.

Sports
Adisadel College has been sports power since colonial days to the present. Adisadel encourages all of its students to participate in some kind of sporting activity. Most students engage in recreational or competitive sports to eschew the label “Waste Pipe”- a campus vernacular that is used to refer to an able-body who does not participate in sports. Conforming to the Latin adage – “A healthy mind in a healthy body”, the school organizes competitive intramural sports. Early morning jogging by the entire residents of a dormitory is a common activity on campus. Cricket, basketball, hockey, gymnastics, soccer, volleyball, track and field, tennis and table tennis are some of the sports on campus.
Basketball
With victories over teams from Ghana Navy, University of Cape Coast, St. Johns School, the school dominated the sports in the seventies with players like Daniel Prempeh (Knight House), Angus Ola (Canterbury), Isaac Neizer (Canterbury), Ebenezer Ofori Ahwireng (knight), Laryea (Quaque) and Afful (Knight), Marlon Bilson (Knight). The sport suffered when the Drury Gymnasium was temporarily converted into a dining hall during the rebuilding of the current dining hall. Currently the school is rebuilding a team which was quite successful in many friendlies they played.
Soccer
The only school in Ghana with three soccer fields, Adisadel has developed soccer to a highly competitive level. More students participate in this sport than any other. In the early seventies, Adisadel students like Dr. Sam Amporful (1973) played for Cape Coast Vipers. Baffour Gyan,a striker of the national team, the Black Stars, is also an old boy and was in Hamlyn house. En route to becoming the Zonal Champions, Adisadel beat Ghana National College on penalty kicks. Ibrahim Ayew, a past student and son of Legend Abedi Ayew ‘Pele’ was a member of the college soccer team during the years of 2002-2004. He now plies his trade with Zamalek f/c, a top club in Egypt and Africa football. Rahim, as he is popularly known by his colleagues, was part of the Ghanaian squad that chalked the silver medal in the CAN 2010 Angola, losing to Egypt in the final. Samuel Appiah, currently in the MLS in the USA, plays for the Houston Dynamo. He played together with Rahim Ayew. He was the school captain and sports prefect. From Adisadel, he played for the University of Ghana soccer team and had a scholarship to Boston University where he played all their games and was the captain.
Track and Field
Adisadel College’s continued dominance in track and field can be traced to the late forties. The school continues to produce sprinters of national and internal caliber. Since H.O Nyarku of Adisadel represented Ghana (then Gold Coast) in 1952 Olympics Games in Helsinki, the school has produced several national sprinters like George Enchill (Sakinah), Yaw Atuahene (USA), Kofi Osei (Sasta) and Perry Ofori-Baffoe (Nguji). In 1997 Perry won 5-track events (100m, 200m, 400m, 4×100 and 4×400) setting a new 100m record, and representing Ghana at the National Junior Games in Edmonton, Canada.

About ADISCO:
Adisadel was established in 1910 in a building at Topp Yard, near Christ Church and Cape Coast Castle. It began with 29 boys, but in 1935 it had about 200. The school buildings were extended in 1950 by Fry and Drew.[1] At the time of the Golden Jubilee in 1960, enrolment had gone up to 545. When the school celebrated its centenary in 2010 there were over 1500 boys (all boarders) and 93 teachers.
The school’s Founder was the Right Reverend Dr Nathaniel Temple Hamlyn of the Anglican Church. His purpose was to provide a grammar school for sons of Anglican parents, in particular a training ground for Church personnel.
The School is the second-oldest secondary school in Ghana, and claims to be one of the most famous institutions of learning in sub-Saharan Africa. The first secondary school to be established in Ghana was Mfantsipim School, also in Cape Coast, which was founded by the Methodist Church in 1876. It currently has 10 houses, the most recent being Thomas Jonah House, built in 1997.
Adisadel College was the first secondary school in the history of Ghana to have its prefects don special cloaks, red for the head prefects, blue for the other prefects and green for the assistants.
Uniform
The uniform of the school is black and white shirt on black shorts. It is commonly referred to as “zebra” due to its resemblance to the skin of the zebra.
Residence
The school has ten houses: Hamlyn, Quaque, Elliott, Canterbury, Knight, Aglionby, Ebiradze, Jubilee, Thomas Jonah, and Le Maire. The school has two parts: one lies on a hill and one below and these are linked by a staircase (Katanga Stairs) made up of 83 steps. The school one the hill is called Leopoldville and is commonly called by the students as The Upper School. It accommodates four houses: Hamlyn, Elliott, Canterbury and Knight. And also the White house where the Head Prefect and the Chapel Prefect reside. It is also where the school’s dining hall, assembly hall known as Canterbury Hall, the chapel, classroom blocks, the headmaster’s residence and the administration buildings stand. The lower part of the school is called Katanga or Lower School by students. This is where the other six remaining houses are. The sports stadium which includes a soccer field is situated there alongside two other soccer fields.

About KWABOTWE:
Mfantsipim is a Methodist secondary school in Cape Coast, Ghana. It has origins in the first secondary school to be established in the Gold Coast, (now Ghana), Wesleyan High School, founded on 3 April 1876. The first principal was James Picot, who was 18 years old at the time. The school changed its name to Wesleyan Collegiate School in 1896.
In 1905 a graduate of the school, John Mensah Sarbah, founded a rival school named Mfantsipim; the name derives from “Mfantsefo-apem”, meaning “thousands of Fantes”. In July of the same year the two schools were merged under the control of the Methodist church, keeping the name Mfantsipim. In 1931 the school moved to the present site at Kwabotwe Hill in the northern part of Cape Coast, at the top of Kotokuraba Road

About Amanfoﬤ:
The School’s official name is Prempeh College. Both current and past students are known as Amanfoﬤ, depicting the sense of nationalism imbued in the pioneering students in the original motto of the College: “Oman pa fapem me obrapa” which translates as Good citizens make a good nation. There is a strong determination through hard work, integrity and good
morals and also a strong desire by Amanfoﬤ to serve the nation in particular, and the world at large in any capacity they find themselves. The original motto was amended to “Suban Ne NimdeƐ” – Character and Knowledge in 1964.
Prempeh College as an educational institution is a product of a fruitful collaboration between the Kumasi Traditional Council, the Presbyterian and Methodist churches in the then Gold Coast and the Colonial Central Government.
The Colonial Government sought to correct this imbalance in the early 1940’s by inviting the Presbyterian and Methodist Churches, which had proven experience in running institutions of learning to start a Secondary School for boys.
After some delays caused by the Second World War, the final decision to open a school for boys in Kumasi was taken in 1948. Prempeh College, therefore, was founded to fill a void that had existed in Secondary Education for residents of Ashanti and the Northern Sector of the Country
Temporary accommodation was found for the Students in the premises of the 52nd Military Hospital. The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei-Agyeman Prempeh II, who had taken personal interest in the formation of the school donated the land which forms the present site of the school.
The name Prempeh College was suggested by Major C.O. Butler, the then Chief Commissioner for Ashanti. The Ashanti colours of green and gold was adopted by the school. The first Headmaster, Rev. S. N. Pearson presented the school crest which incorporated the school colours and depicting the Ashanti stool as well as a cross, representing the role of the church.
The School was opened on 3rd February, 1949 with the arrival of 50 students and its formal opening ceremony was attended by many dignitaries, including The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei-Agyemang Prempeh II, Major C. O. Butler, Church Leaders, Chiefs and members of the Kumasi Traditional Council.
The Asantehene maintained a keen interest in the school and was a frequent attendant at the School’s Speech and Prize-Giving Days.
Special mention is made of Dr. T. A. Osae, first African headmaster who brought the work of his predecessors to fruition and built on it. Under him Prempeh was placed on a high pedestal, beating key schools academically for ten consecutive years.
